According to Association For Talent Development (ATD), Organisation Development (OD) is an effort that focuses on improving an organization’s capability through the alignment of strategy, structure, people, rewards, metrics, and management processes. It is a science-backed, interdisciplinary field rooted in psychology, culture, innovation, social sciences, adult education, human resource management, change management, organization behavior, and research analysis and design, among others.
While some people think Organisation Development (OD) is primarily a Human Resource (HR) domain, OD is for anyone who is interested in solving complex problem using a structured approach by utilising knowledge in organisation design and human psychology.
So whether you are from operations, finance, customer service, production or any function in an organisation, you will benefit from OD.
Did you know that OD emerged out of human relations studies from the 1930s where psychologists realized that organizational structures and processes influence worker behavior and motivation.
Kurt Lewin (1898 - 1947) is considered the founding father of Organisation Development. The pioneer to OD are engineers, not HR!
